Frenship ISD | Ninth Grade Center

Written by Lee Lewis | Dec 31, 2023 5:29:00 PM

Frenship ISD’s growth dictated expansion and it was determined that a new self-contained freshman campus be built across the street from the land-locked existing high school campus with a capacity of 950 students. The two-story classroom wings include eight combination science lab/lecture rooms, eight computer rooms, music/choir rooms, and Home/Life Study facilities. The core area holds a technology-driven multi-level media center with collaboration stations and classrooms. The media center and cafeteria with stage were designed to accommodate up to 950 additional students. The ninth-grade center has two spectator gymnasiums with dressing/office support facilities. Covered walkways and landscaped courtyards provide access to the main and secondary entries.

Tilt-up concrete wall panels with face brick accents were used to provide exterior load-bearing walls that complemented the high school façade. Continuous concrete footings support the exterior tilt-up concrete walls, while concrete spot footings support the balance of the structure’s steel frame with concrete slab on steel joist second floor and energy-conscious lightweight insulated concrete roof deck.
