Eleanor “Bonnie” Gentry Elementary serves Pre-K through 5th grade in Mesquite ISD and is home to approximately 615 students supported by 52 full-time teachers. As part of the 2018 bond program, Mesquite ISD invested in a significant addition and renovation project to expand and modernize the campus.

The project included demolition, site work, classroom additions, and infrastructure upgrades. A total of 12 new classrooms were added to support 4th and 5th-grade students, with the new wing also designed to function as a storm shelter. A small, covered courtyard was constructed between the existing building and the new addition, providing teachers with flexible outdoor space for instruction and student activities.

Improvements to the existing facility included new flooring and tiled wall finishes throughout the hallways, as well as a replacement of the gymnasium floor. Major mechanical upgrades were made to the cooling tower, chillers, boiler equipment, and fire alarm systems to enhance efficiency and safety.

To accommodate the new addition, the playground was relocated closer to the main building, now secured with a new perimeter fence for increased safety. Additional site improvements included upgraded lighting and refreshed landscaping, enhancing the overall functionality and appearance of the campus.
