Assistant Superintendent
Position Summary
The Assistant Superintendent supports the Superintendent in the day-to-day field execution of commercial construction projects to help strengthen field oversight. This role is focused on field presence, trade coordination, quality verification, documentation, and proactive issue identification. This position partners closely with the Superintendent, Project Manager, subcontractors, and inspectors to support efficient project delivery while developing the skills necessary for advancement into a Superintendent role.
Key Responsibilities
Field Operations & Coordination
- Support daily field execution under the direction of the Superintendent.
- Maintain a continuous on-site presence, visually observing work performed by all trades throughout the day.
- Verify readiness of work areas prior to trade mobilization, including access, layout, materials, and preceding work completion.
- Assist with subcontractor phasing, sequencing, and coordination to support the project schedule.
- Confirm proper installation methods and material storage in accordance with contract documents, manufacturer requirements, and approved submittals
Quality Control & Punchlist Support
- Monitor workmanship and immediately report quality concerns or deviations from plans to the Superintendent.
- Assist with architectural, consultant, and internal (LLCI) punch list completion and tracking.
- Support mockup installations, inspections, and acceptance processes as assigned.
- Verify installer qualifications and ensure trades meet contract and manufacturer requirements when directed.
Safety Support
- Support enforcement of company safety policies and OSHA compliance on site.
- Observe site conditions and report unsafe practices or hazards to the Superintendent immediately.
- Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and professional jobsite.
Meetings & Communication
- Attend preinstallation meetings and review product data, approved submittals, and installation procedures.
- Communicate daily field observations, progress, and potential issues to the Superintendent.
- Assist in facilitating subcontractor coordination and issue resolution as directed.
Documentation
- Upload and label daily progress photos in Procore with clear descriptions.
- Assist with maintaining accurate site documentation, including photos, punch list items, and subcontractor progress tracking.
- Utilize Procore, Bluebeam, and Office365 tools to support project documentation and communication.
Professional Development
- Learn and apply company standards for field execution, quality control, safety, and documentation.
- Take on increasing responsibility as experience and performance allow.
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support project success.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- 2–4 years of experience in commercial construction field operations preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and submittals.
- Strong observational skills with attention to detail and quality.
- Effective communication skills and willingness to ask questions and escalate issues early.
- Proficiency or willingness to learn construction software tools (Procore, Bluebeam, Office365).
- Ability to work full-time on-site in varying weather and jobsite conditions.
