City of Lubbock - Police Crime Lab and Evidence Warehouse

Lubbock, TX

About the project

The Lubbock Police Department’s Forensic Science and Property Unit is part of the City of Lubbock’s transformative Public Safety Improvement project. This critical initiative, launched in 2022, spans every phase—from programming and schematic design to cost estimation and construction administration—ensuring the facility was tailored to meet the department’s evolving operational demands.

This new, state-of-the-art facility replaces the outdated property room—formerly a repurposed car dealership from the early 1990s—that no longer meets the needs of the department. The previous 7,000 SF space had been stretched to capacity, housing over 800,000 pieces of evidence managed by just eight technicians. The new facility is double the available space, with approximately 14,000 SF, and integrates both the Forensic and Property Units under one roof.

Specialized design features—including high-density, rollable storage systems and dedicated forensic work areas—vastly improve evidence tracking, organization, and overall efficiency. These enhancements not only streamline investigative processes but also ensure strict compliance with chain-of-custody protocols, which are critical to criminal justice outcomes.

More than just a building, this facility symbolizes a forward-thinking investment in regional public safety. It’s designed to empower law enforcement with the tools and infrastructure needed to manage complex forensic and evidence-handling demands—supporting improved investigative outcomes across Lubbock and the greater West Texas region.
