Ellen Noël Art Museum

San Angelo, TX

About the project

The Ellen Noël Art Museum’s expansion represents a significant cultural investment for Odessa and the broader Permian Basin. The project adds approximately 14,000 SF to the original facility, increasing the total footprint to 35,689 SF and creating a modern, flexible environment designed to inspire learning, creativity, and community engagement.

Originally built in 1985, the museum’s solid brick façade and concealed entry created both physical and psychological barriers for visitors. The redesign replaces this with a welcoming glass-front entry and revolving door that clearly defines access and enhances overall accessibility. Updated systems, modern amenities, and improved wayfinding ensure that visitors of all abilities can enjoy the museum’s offerings.

The renovated museum now features 9,700 SF of gallery space, a 2,000 SF multipurpose gallery, a 100-seat theater, a 4,700 SF event hall, and expanded educational studios. These state-of-the-art spaces include versatile classrooms and meeting rooms that can be combined to accommodate large gatherings, including seated events for up to 500 guests.

The museum’s versatile, expanded facilities establish it as a regional hub for cultural programs, community events, and educational initiatives, fostering creativity and providing an inclusive space for the Permian Basin for decades to come. This project is not just about expanding our physical space; it's about broadening our impact and reaching more individuals with the transformative power of art.
