Arlington ISD - Joey Rodriguez Junior High School
Arlington, TX
About the project
Joey Rodriguez Junior High School, designed by Corgan and funded through the district’s 2019 Bond program, opened in August 2025. Built on the former Knox Elementary School site, the new campus replaces Carter Junior High.
The school features a welcoming entry plaza with a canopy and ranges in height from the three-story classroom blocks on the north to a single-story administration office space and a one-and-a-half-floor media center. The facility is designed to serve about 1,100 students and includes 48 classroom spaces, including CTE classrooms, break-out and collaboration spaces, teacher workrooms and administrative offices. There are dedicated performing arts spaces for band, orchestra, drama, choir and art, along with rooms for special education programs, science labs and a storm shelter.
Outdoor athletic facilities feature a regulation synthetic turf football/soccer field, a four-lane track, bleachers, a press box, concessions, and restrooms. The campus honors the legacy of Joey Rodriguez, a beloved Sam Houston High School teacher and soccer coach.
